SUJO was set up within the University of Southampton and has since gone from strength to strength having played at a number of prestigious venues in recent years ranging from the Concorde Club to the North Sea Jazz Festival and, this Summer, the Montreux Jazz Festival! We also play regular concerts around the University with a good following of attendees.

The band’s wide repertoire ranges from classics such as the Count Basie Orchestra’s Corner Pocket to more modern compositions like Bob Curnow’s Cayenne.

Our standard band is a full 17 part jazz orchestra plus MD and vocalists (as below) which is ideal for anything from a concert hall to an outdoors event or a society ball. If required however, we can also find a smaller ensemble for more intimate venues and background music.

If you would like to contact us about bookings or any comments and suggestions for the website, send us a message here.

If you are interested in joining the band, we hold auditions each September at the university while MDs are auditioned towards the end of each academic year. Get in touch if you would like to know more details about the auditions or rehearsals and the level of commitment expected.

We are also looking for sponsors. If you are interested, click here to find out what we could offer your business. As always, don’t hesitate to give us any additional suggestions through the contact us form.
