It is now August which means we are now basking in the warmth of mid-summer but don’t think the committee have been taking too much time off. For next year, we are sorting out a lot of new repertoire plus we have a couple of gigs in the pipeline already. Also, we are now under 2 months from auditions for next year’s band – watch this space for more details!
We are home at last having played 2 gigs at the fantastic Montreux Jazz Festival. Pictures and recordings to come soon!
We have our final recording in the series – Duke Ellington’s “Such Sweet Thunder” featuring Jonathan Shapiro as a soloist. Hope to see you tomorrow at Montreux Jazz Festival!
It is now only a week 9 days until our first performance at Montreux Jazz Festival! For this week’s recording we have John Klenner’s fantastic Just Friends with guest vocals from Francesca Lewis and a (brief) Flugelhorn solo from Jonathan Shapiro. We hope you enjoy and we might even see some of you in Switzerland!
This week’s recording is a timeless classic, Glenn Miller’s Moonlight Serenade, featuring James Baros on Clarinet. As always you can find the rest of our recordings on the website.
We have new photos up in our gallery taken at performance at the bridge on 6th June. Have a look here to find out more!
So tomorrow is our last gig before the Summer at the Bridge, supported by Penquin. In case you need convincing to come, this is SUJO’s great recording of Count Basie’s Hay Burner. Want to hear more? Make sure you are at The Bridge at 7.30pm on June 6th.
Today’s recording is Duke Ellington’s “Second Line”. Harking back to New Orleans this track is packed with feel you can almost taste, especially in James Barros’ clarinet solos! Make sure you come back next week for more and, if you can’t wait that long, check out our recordings page.
Have you taken a look at our new gallery yet? It could be bigger and better but for that, we need your help. If you have any photos of us doing anything as a band, go to the contact us page and we will tell you how to email it to us (sorry – we don’t want to publish our address here because of Spam-bots).
